Stories and highlights
There's always something to celebrate at our school! Our students take part in a range of learning opportunities, here are some of our highlights.
A year at our school
Stage 2 Cascade Environmental Education Centre Camp
Our 3-4 students have an amazing time at Cascade, learning about biodiversity in the rainforest, investigating micro invertebrates, creating fire by friction, enjoying the solitude of bush 'sit spots' and challenging themselves on the low ropes course. The brilliant staff at Cascade lead very interesting and engaging activities, educating students to respect all living things in the environment. Seeing students leap across rocks at the creek, listen for bird sounds and discuss small wonders on the walks makes it obvious why we choose this camp; our students were completely in their element. Thank you to the Cascade Environmental Education Centre for making the trips so wonderful.
Stage 3 RROC Sydney Excursion
Our Years 5-6 students have the opportunity to participate in a combined schools camp (with Raleigh PS, Repton PS and Orama PS) to Sydney or Canberra.
Students have a wonderful time visiting all the amazing sights Sydney has to see: Taronga Zoo, Darling Harbour, the Rocks, Cockatoo Island, Chinatown, Sydney Aquarium, Madame Tussauds, the Opera House and experience life in the city.
Ocean Safety Awareness
Each year, our students from K-6 participate in the Ocean Safety Awareness program delivered by Coffs Harbour City Council Lifeguards at Sawtell Beach.
K-6 students participate in a beach talk that includes topics such as:
- Sun safety
- General beach safety
- River, creek and dam safety when swimming
- First aid
- Recognition of dangerous conditions such as rips and large waves
- How to escape from strong currents
Additionally, students in Years 3 to 6 have a fun introduction to surf craft riding. They learn how to paddle, navigate the wave zone, catch waves, and safely bring their surfboards back to shore. Working with a partner, they also practise rescue skills using a surfboard, helping each other stay safe in the water.
"The school staff have made exceptional efforts to help our girls settle into their new school this year. I cannot thank all the staff enough for the caring, engaged and cohesive team lead with such integrity.” — a parent of Crossmaglen Public School
"The kids feel so supported and are most often regulated when they come home from school (besides normal fatigue). Teachers are amazing and show they truely care for the kids." — a parent of Crossmaglen Public School
